Inspiration

At LA Hacks 2025, we created AI Escape, an interactive Roblox-based escape room game designed to teach players essential AI literacy and cybersecurity concepts through immersive storytelling. Inspired by the growing need for responsible AI use and digital awareness, AI Escape blends educational content with thrilling gameplay to create an experience that’s both engaging and impactful. In the future, we hope to make a positive impact in educating people about the essential knowledge of AI and data safety so that they can use technology responsibly and safely

What it does

In AI Escape, players wake up in a house and need to solve puzzles and quizzes about AI topics — such as protecting data privacy, understanding what AI really is, and identifying algorithmic bias. As they complete the mini-games, they unlock keys to escape the house. The game dynamically teaches players how to be critical thinkers in a tech-driven world.

How we built it

We used Roblox Studio and Lua to develop this game. For the educational content, we wrote a curriculum of AI literacy challenges based on current real-world issues like misinformation, ethical AI use, and security vulnerabilities.

Challenges we ran into

Since neither of us had used Roblox Studio or Lua before, this game was a huge learning experience. We not only learned how to script and develop a game, but also how to write educational content in an easy-to-understand format for users of all ages. We spent a lot of time come up with a good way to make the game elements and the educational contents as well-knitted as possible. And we switched to a lot of different game stage before we finalized our decisions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to create a game that is almost fully functioning, while also balancing fun and education through storytelling.

What we learned

We learned how to plan a game, how to script, how to research and write educational content.

What's next for AI Escape

There are a lot of things we hope to develop next and are eager to get started on. First, we plan to make our game fully functioning with our current tasks and to hopefully later include tasks. We also want to explore the possibility of eventually creating two games, one that is centered on data privacy/security and the other about more AI topics. We would definitely be interested in partnering with educational organizations to refine the AI literacy curriculum and potentially use AI Escape in real-world classrooms or workshops.
