AI-Driven Thalassemia Companion Platform

Inspiration

One of my mother's close friend has this blood disorder and when i knew about the condition i was shocked and felt sad . Thousands of patients in India are suffering. In my process of research and exposure, while gaining insights from the cases of the patient's and caregiver's I came to realize how they find it difficult to get regular, time-specific blood donors. The psychological, physical, and logistical problems of such families touched the heart deeply, particularly the worry of waiting for a matching donor before each transfusion. It was this that brought me to a decision where I would develop an online platform that would act as a bridge between patients, donors, hospitals, and caregivers.

What We Built

We developed a centralized AI-driven platform that is designed to enhance the quality of life of Thalassemia patients in three major areas of intervention:

Real-time Donor Mapping: Based on data visualization, the portal provides district-level mapping of potential blood donors. In the case of Pune district, we mark low and high donor concentration areas with color gradations — enabling intelligent planning of blood drives and quicker mobilization of donors.
Smart Communication Tools: Patient-caregiver-doctor communication channels are included in compliance with privacy legislation, enabling easy coordination for planning transfusion appointments and consultations.
Portal of Awareness and Education: A specific page to inform patients and the public about Thalassemia treatment, symptoms, emergency numbers, and campaign URLs such as e-RaktKosh and Blood Warriors' Blood Bridge. .And Many More

How We Built It

We have built the website using the assistance of AI - Lovable ai also some other plugins like perplexity for research and supabase for website

Challenges We Faced

We have implemented Synthetic / Fake data to our demo site, we also have an extra special blood donor map function. Implementing this function was difficult but we made it work. Also ai predictions on the synthetic data was difficult to do

From a design perspective, instilling a sense of urgency and medical/emotional needs without leading to information overload in users was challenging — we addressed this through rigorous user testing and feedback incorporations.

What We Learned

We learned the value of empathy-driven design through this project. Health tech is not only about innovation but also sensitivity, trustworthiness, and reliability. We also enhanced my full-stack development skills, map integrations, and learned how to create AI-aided presentations.
