Inspiration
We noticed that students often struggle to find internships that match their skills and career interests, while companies face challenges in identifying suitable candidates. This inspired us to create an AI-powered platform that connects students and industries in one place.
What it does
AI-Digital Internship Portal allows students to create profiles, upload resumes, discover internships, and receive personalized recommendations. Industries can post internships, review candidates, and rank them based on their suitability. AI-based matching using TF-IDF and Cosine Similarity helps connect the right students with relevant opportunities.
How we built it
We built the platform using the MERN stack — MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js. We implemented TF-IDF and Cosine Similarity to calculate the match between student profiles/resumes and internship requirements.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenges were designing an effective matching system, processing resume information, and creating separate workflows for students, industries, and administrators while keeping the platform simple and user-friendly.
Accomplishments
We successfully built a centralized platform that combines internship discovery, AI-based recommendations, applications, and candidate ranking in one system.
What we learned
We gained practical experience in full-stack development, AI-based text matching, database management, API integration, and user-centric application design.
What's next
We plan to improve the AI recommendation system, add advanced resume analysis, skill-gap recommendations, notifications, and smarter career guidance to make the platform more personalized and effective.
