Inspiration

Farmers can lose valuable crops when diseases are not identified early. Access to agricultural experts is also not always immediate or affordable. We wanted to build a simple solution where a farmer could use something already in their pocket—a smartphone—to understand what may be affecting their crop.

That idea inspired AI Crop Doctor: take a photo, analyze the plant, identify the likely disease or problem, and provide practical guidance in the farmer's local language.

What We Built

AI Crop Doctor is an AI-powered crop health assistant that analyzes plant images to identify likely diseases, pests, or nutrient-related problems. It provides symptoms, confidence levels, possible alternatives, treatment guidance, prevention steps, and follow-up questions.

We designed the experience around simplicity: Snap → Diagnose → Understand → Act.

How We Built It

We built a mobile-first web application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with AI vision for image analysis and multilingual response generation. The system supports multiple crop images and additional information such as crop type, location, growth stage, symptoms, and previous treatments.

Challenges & Learning

One of our biggest challenges was that different crop diseases, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stresses can produce similar visual symptoms. We learned that simply asking AI for a diagnosis is not enough.

We therefore focused on image-quality checks, alternative diagnoses, confidence levels, follow-up questions, and safety-focused recommendations. This taught us that building useful AI is not just about getting an answer—it is about communicating uncertainty and helping users make better decisions.

Impact

Our goal is to make crop-health guidance more accessible to farmers, especially when immediate expert advice is difficult to reach. By combining smartphone imaging, AI, and local-language communication, AI Crop Doctor aims to turn complex agricultural knowledge into simple, actionable guidance.
