Inspiration
As cyberattacks continue to increase, compromised accounts and suspicious login attempts have become one of the biggest security threats for organizations and online platforms. Traditional authentication systems mainly rely on usernames and passwords, but they often fail to detect unusual user behavior such as impossible travel logins, suspicious devices, or abnormal access patterns.
The inspiration behind this project came from the idea of building a smarter security monitoring system that not only records login activity but also analyzes behavioral patterns using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. We wanted to create a platform capable of identifying risky authentication attempts in real time and assisting administrators through an interactive dashboard and alert system.
Our goal was to combine:
Behavioral profiling Machine Learning risk prediction Threat monitoring Login anomaly detection Administrative analytics
into a single intelligent cybersecurity platform.
What We Learned
During the development of this project, we gained practical experience in several areas of cybersecurity, backend development, and AI integration.
Some of the major concepts we learned include:
Machine Learning-based anomaly detection User behavior profiling Risk scoring systems Flask backend development REST API development SQLite database integration Session management and authentication Dashboard visualization Real-time alert generation Security event logging and analysis
We also improved our understanding of:
Feature extraction from login events Geolocation-based security analysis Impossible travel detection Device fingerprinting concepts Threat intelligence workflows
This project helped us understand how AI can strengthen authentication systems by identifying suspicious activity beyond simple password verification.
How We Built the Project
The project was developed using a modular Python and Flask architecture consisting of APIs, Machine Learning components, database services, and an administrative dashboard.
System Architecture
The platform contains multiple integrated modules:
REST API Layer Machine Learning Prediction Engine Behavior Profiling Service Threat Alert System Administrative Dashboard Login Simulation Module Database & Logging Infrastructure
The backend was implemented using Flask, while the frontend dashboard was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Machine Learning Risk Prediction
The core intelligence of the system comes from the Machine Learning prediction engine located in the ml/ module.
The model evaluates login behavior using features such as:
Login hour Device type Browser information IP country Failed login attempts Distance from previous login Login frequency Time since last login
The prediction model generates a security risk score for each login attempt.
