Inspiration
The inspiration for AI ChatMentor came from my personal experience of job loss at the end of last year. Faced with uncertainty, I turned my focus toward exploring new AI technologies that could empower individuals in their professional communication. This led me to create a tool that helps users enhance their writing skills and improve their daily interactions through the power of AI.
What it does
AI ChatMentor is a powerful tool that leverages the ChatGPT API and GPT-4 to enhance writing skills, simplify email responses, and provide professional message templates. It not only helps users draft clear and effective messages but also facilitates seamless global communication by breaking language barriers with rapid translations.
How I built it
I built AI ChatMentor using a combination of SwiftUI for the iOS frontend and NodeJS for the backend, integrating the capabilities of ChatGPT-4 to drive the AI functionality. This combination allowed for a smooth user experience while handling complex AI tasks in the background.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges I faced was transitioning from iOS development to learning backend development with NodeJS. It required a steep learning curve to understand server-side programming and how to effectively communicate between the front and back ends. Additionally, I encountered difficulties with marketing the application and reaching the targeted user base.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of successfully developing a functional application that addresses a real-world need by combining advanced AI technology with user-friendly design. I'm also proud of overcoming the initial hurdles of backend development and creating a product that can genuinely assist users in their communication tasks.
What I learned
Through this project, I learned how to rapidly grasp about 60% of a new technology and apply it effectively. I discovered the importance of rapid iteration, which allowed me to refine features and improve the overall user experience based on feedback and ongoing testing.
What's next for AI ChatMentor
Looking ahead, I plan to add a text-to-speech feature that will enhance accessibility and provide users with an additional communication tool. I also aim to improve marketing strategies to reach a wider audience, ensuring that more professionals can benefit from AI ChatMentor in their daily communications.
