Inspiration

Job searching often gives people generic advice, but not a clear next step. I wanted to build something that reads a person’s experience and target role, then turns the gap into a practical plan they can follow.

I wanted to create a tool that gives people a practical starting point when they feel stuck or unsure how to move toward a new role.

I added Guided Demo mode and request limits so people can explore the core experience responsibly.

What it does

Pathwise is an AI career copilot. Users can upload or paste a Resume, add a target role, and receive a fit score, strengths, skill gaps, a four-week improvement plan, Resume suggestions, interview practice, and a tailored introduction.

The goal is not to promise a job. It is to make the next career step clearer and more actionable.

How I built it

I built Pathwise as a web application with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, Supabase, and the OpenAI API.

GPT-5.6 powers the career analysis, Resume improvement suggestions, interview coaching, and tailored introductions. Supabase handles user authentication and saved plans. The app is deployed on Render.

I used Codex throughout the project to plan features, build the interface, debug issues, improve the user flow, and refine the final product.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was making the advice useful instead of generic. I focused on showing one clear recommended action, guided tasks, progress tracking, and learning resources. I also added a Guided Demo so people can explore the product without using API credits.

What I learned

I learned how important product flow is when building with AI. The AI response is only one part of the experience; users also need clear actions, saved progress, readable feedback, and a simple way to return to their plan.
