💡 Inspiration

Many businesses find it difficult to manage their expenses, track cash flow, and understand their financial position. Unexpected spending and duplicate expenses can make financial planning harder.

I wanted to build a solution that brings important financial information into one place and helps businesses make better financial decisions. This idea inspired me to create FinAssist AI.

🎯 What It Does

FinAssist AI is an AI-powered financial management platform designed to help businesses understand their financial data.

Key features include:

• Financial Dashboard: View important financial information in one place.
• Cash Runway Analysis: Estimate how long available funds may last at the current spending rate.
• AI Copilot: Use Google Gemini to get AI-generated insights about financial information.
• Anomaly Detection: Identify potentially unusual transactions and possible duplicate expenses.
• Invoice Scanner: Explore a simulated invoice-scanning workflow.
• Financial Reports: Export financial information into reports.
• PayPal Sandbox Integration: Demonstrate a payment flow in a test environment without transferring real money.

🛠️ How I Built It

I built FinAssist AI using React, TypeScript, Node.js, Firebase, and Google Gemini.

React and TypeScript power the user interface. Node.js handles backend operations, while Firebase supports authentication and financial data storage. Google Gemini powers the AI Copilot.

I also integrated PayPal Sandbox to demonstrate the payment workflow in a test environment.

📚 What I Learned

While building this project, I learned more about connecting frontend and backend components, working with financial data, integrating AI into an application, and using Firebase for data storage and authentication.

I also learned why testing, security, and clear communication are important when building an application that handles financial information.

🚧 Challenges I Faced

One of the main challenges was bringing different technologies together into one application.

Connecting the AI features, managing financial data, and setting up the payment workflow required careful testing and debugging.

Another challenge was designing the application so that users could understand financial information without needing advanced financial knowledge.

Working through these challenges helped me improve my development and problem-solving skills.

🔮 What's Next

In the future, I would like to improve FinAssist AI by adding real invoice text extraction, more advanced financial analysis, multi-currency support, and additional payment features.

My goal is to make financial information easier to understand and help businesses make more informed decisions.

🏁 Final Thoughts

FinAssist AI is my attempt to combine AI and financial technology in one useful platform.

Building this project helped me explore how AI can support financial management and how payment integrations can be tested using a sandbox environment.

I built this project for the PayPal AI Hackathon, and I hope it can inspire further ideas for making financial management simpler and more accessible.
