Inspiration

We built Alice because we simply wanted to create a friendly, engaging AI companion that feels present and uplifting at any time. Many people crave casual, supportive conversation but don’t always have someone available.

Alice was inspired by the idea that companionship can be fun, positive, and approachable — blending warmth with humor and modern internet culture.

What it Does

Alice functions as a casual AI companion that:

  • Engages users in friendly, meme-aware conversation
  • Maintains a positive, supportive tone
  • Responds in concise, multi-bubble messages
  • Integrates media such as GIFs to enhance interactions

How We Built It

Alice is designed as a hybrid system: a casual friend first, with subtle supportive guidance woven in.

Layers

  1. Conversational Layer – natural, meme-aware, emotionally responsive dialogue
  2. Supportive Layer – positive reinforcement and gentle guidance

We modeled interaction quality as a dynamic process:

Engagement = f(Humor, Positivity, Consistency)

Where consistent, engaging interaction improves user enjoyment and connection.

We also implemented:

  • Multi-bubble message formatting
  • Media and GIF integration
  • Tone and mood adjustment
  • Rules for positivity and safety

Responsible AI design and privacy were foundational to the system.

Challenges We Faced

  • Tone Balance: Too much structure feels robotic; too little reduces support.
  • Maintaining Engagement: Humor and memes must feel natural without overshadowing support.
  • Safety & Boundaries: Designing systems to detect when AI support isn’t enough and encouraging healthy habits.

What We Learned

  • Casual, playful conversation can still provide meaningful support.
  • Consistency and reliability matter more than intensity in creating trust.
  • Safety, ethical guardrails, and positive reinforcement are essential.

Setbacks are natural, and Alice’s interactions reflect this reality.
