Inspiration

The inspiration behind our AI-Based Poultry Management System came from the challenges poultry farmers face in managing daily farm operations using traditional methods. Tracking bird mortality, feed consumption, weight, vaccinations, expenses, and sales manually can be time-consuming and error-prone. We wanted to develop a centralized, intelligent platform that simplifies farm management, reduces manual work, and supports better decision-making through AI-powered insights.

What it does

Our system provides a centralized platform to manage and monitor poultry farm operations efficiently.

  • Farm and Batch Management: Organizes farm details, poultry batches, and bird records.
  • Daily Farm Monitoring: Tracks mortality, remaining birds, feed consumption, and bird weight.
  • Feed Management: Records feed stock, deliveries, and consumption.
  • Health and Vaccination Tracking: Maintains vaccination and health records.
  • Sales and Expense Management: Tracks financial transactions and farm profitability.
  • AI-Powered Analytics: Uses farm data to support intelligent analysis and data-driven decisions.
  • Role-Based Access: Provides separate access for CEO, Supervisor, and Farmer roles.
  • Performance Calculations: Calculates mortality percentage and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) to help evaluate farm performance.

How we built it

We built the application using a modern full-stack architecture. The frontend was developed with React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui to provide an interactive and user-friendly interface. The backend uses Java and Spring Boot to develop REST APIs and handle business logic. We used Spring Security and JWT authentication to secure access and implement role-based authorization. MySQL, Spring Data JPA, and Hibernate manage persistent data storage and database operations. We also integrated TanStack Query for API data management and used AI-based analysis to derive insights from farm records.

Challenges we ran into

One of our major challenges was integrating the frontend with the Spring Boot backend and ensuring reliable communication through REST APIs. Implementing JWT authentication and role-based access control required careful handling of login sessions, authorization, and protected routes. We also faced challenges in designing database relationships between farms, farmers, and batches, maintaining accurate operational records, and calculating performance metrics correctly. Integrating AI-based analysis into the application while keeping the results meaningful and reliable was another important challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed a full-stack poultry management platform that brings multiple farm operations into one application. We implemented secure authentication, role-based access for different users, structured database management, and features for tracking feed consumption, mortality, bird weight, vaccinations, sales, and expenses. We are especially proud of combining conventional farm management features with AI-powered analysis to support smarter and more efficient poultry farming.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained practical experience in full-stack application development, REST API integration, database design, authentication, authorization, and frontend state management. We learned how to connect React with Spring Boot, manage application data using MySQL and JPA/Hibernate, and implement secure user access using JWT. We also learned the importance of data accuracy, effective teamwork, debugging, and designing software around real-world agricultural problems.

What's next for AI-Based Poultry Management System

Our future goal is to make the system more intelligent, predictive, and scalable. We plan to explore AI models for predicting mortality risks, identifying unusual feed consumption patterns, forecasting bird growth, and estimating farm profitability. We also aim to introduce automated alerts for vaccination schedules, low feed stock, and abnormal farm conditions. Future enhancements may include IoT sensor integration for real-time environmental monitoring, advanced dashboards, mobile-friendly access, and predictive analytics that help farmers identify potential problems earlier and make informed decisions.
