The project was inspired by the challenges hospitals face in managing nursing staff schedules, availability, overtime, and workload distribution. The AI-Based Nursing Shift Scheduling and Overtime Tracking Portal aims to simplify shift allocation by considering nurse availability, workload, and hospital staffing requirements. We designed a web-based portal with features for nurse information management, shift scheduling, conflict detection, overtime tracking, and workload monitoring. One of the main challenges was managing multiple scheduling constraints, preventing overlapping shifts, and ensuring fair workload distribution while meeting hospital staffing needs. We are proud to work on a solution that addresses a real-world healthcare problem and supports more efficient staff management. Through this project, we learned about problem-solving, scheduling logic, database management, and web application development. In the future, we plan to enhance the system with advanced AI-based scheduling optimization, real-time shift updates, predictive staffing requirements, automated notifications, and detailed analytics to improve workforce planning, reduce scheduling conflicts, and help prevent nurse burnout.
