What's next for AI-based laser QR code marking for Indian Rail track fitting
Innovative solutions are invited through Smart India Hackathon 2025 to develop and implement a system addressing identification of bulk supply materials, their performance issues, and effective inventory management and quality monitoring actions for safety performance of fittings. • Hardware Solution: Design and implement laser-based QR code imprints on bulk supply items of track fittings and sleepers. • Software Solution: Enable mobile scans to generate Al-based reports related to vendor, supply, warranty, inspections, and support inventory management, etc.
ON-SITE WORK:- • Objective: To present the Rail Fit QR solution and validate its feasibility under real railway conditions. • Discussion Points: o Explained the problem of frequent track component failures leading to accidents. o Demonstrated how laser-based QR codes can ensure traceability of fittings. o Showed integration possibilities with UDM (User Depot Module) and TMS (Track Management System). o Highlighted predictive Al alerts for wear, fatigue, and inspection scheduling. • On-Site Validation: o Conducted inspection at Kandhampatty railway track, Salem. o Collected GPS-tagged data and photographs of track fittings. o Compared failure patterns with proposed QR-based monitoring system. • Outcome: O PRO acknowledged the potential of QR + AI for improving safety and inventory management. o Encouraged further refinement and alignment with Indian Railways' digital initiatives. o Provided practical insights into deployment challenges (field conditions, inspector training, scalability). I added a photo of our meeting with the Salem Divisional Railway PRO at end of slide
