Inspiration
Throughout our freshman year of high school, the hardest class for most people has been AP Human Geography. With topics so vast and diverse, along with vocabulary memorization and application, students have struggled to ace their tests. But, we thought about how most people learn. Through real life examples! With this we sought out to build a simple AI assisted news gatherer, which gives real life news based off of a chosen vocabulary term and region.
What it does
The website takes user input and returns multiple/single article(s) going in depth into real life applications of the term they requested to search.
How we built it
By using a django backend to handle all of our data, we used a HTML, CSS, and JavaScript front-end to handle and transport our data between our backend. Along with using a RAG model to add AI suggestions and article tweaking to produce a clearer product.
Challenges we ran into
- Collaboration services (not finding applicable/active collaboration services)
- Learning all the new concepts on the spot
- Building a user friendly UI and making it easy to read and understand
- Developing a web scraper that can collect information reliably and consistently. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of This is our first hackathon, and we're really proud of how much work we were able to put into the project in the short amount of time provided. But also we're proud of the dedication we developed along the way ## What we learned
- Connections for backend to frontend are complex, and can require lots of time and experience to understand, and be able to do at a high level
- Going into a competition “blind” with no significant knowledge of the topics can be burdening ## What's next for AI Assisted AP Human Geography Vocabulary News References The next steps to take would be to expand our news databases, as well as create a more organized workflow for our program. Which comes along with the knowledge we have, and will, keep gaining.
