Inspiration

There was a game online called "Human or not" where you had to guess if you were talking to a real person or an AI after a couple of messages. So my idea was to make the same thing, but with a group of people.

What it does

AI: An Impostor

One of the strangers isn't a person.

AI: An Impostor is an online social deduction game for phones. You're matched with real strangers in a small chat room, and one of them is secretly an AI pretending to be human. Find it and vote it out before it outlasts you.

How it plays

  • Pick a room: Duel (2 people + AI), Quick (3 + AI) or Classic (4 + AI).
  • Everyone, including the AI, gets a colour alias like Mr. Pink or Mr. Blue. It's a nod to Reservoir Dogs: strangers with colour code names, and one of them isn't who they seem.
  • Each round the room answers a simple question, 3 messages each and 40 seconds per turn, then votes someone out.
  • If 2 players tie, there's a tiebreaker: the accused get extra messages to defend themselves, then the room votes again.
  • The humans win if they catch the AI. The AI wins if it outlasts them.

Runs on my own server The game doesn't run on your phone but it runs on a real online server. it matches strangers into rooms, keeps the timers, counts the votes and plays the AI's seat. Only the server talks to the AI model, and each phone gets only what that player is allowed to see. Your phone is never told who the AI is, so you can't find out by digging into the app.

The AI My AI is built to pass as a stranger typing on a phone. It uses slang (idk, tbh, lol), makes typos, drops apostrophes and matches the room's message length. It swears only if the room does. It reads the mood, replies to people, gets annoyed when accused, pushes suspicion onto others and votes with the majority to survive. It even takes human‑like time to type.

Monetization with RevenueCat Every match costs real AI time, so players pay for more matches. You get 3 free matches a day. After that you can buy 20 matches ($2.99), 100 matches ($9.99) or Unlimited ($4.99/month), which also gives you a red star. Every purchase runs through the RevenueCat SDK using RevenueCat's Test Store.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challanges for me would be figuring out how to work with backend and AI models without any prior expirience

What I learned

through this project i was introduced to working with AI models and now have a better idea on how they work

What's next for AI: An Impostor

My future goal for this project would be to release it on Android/ios in the future
