Inspiration
As I was brainstorming, I wondered about all the negativity around A.I. Being cautious is important, but A.I. is a tool like any other. It can be bad, but also good, it all depends on how they’re used. How can A.I. help?
What it does
Consuming a food one is allergic to can have serious negative health consequences. The app scans a food or a package and alerts the user if the food (or label) is likely to contain a custom-defined list of ingredients. The app can also be used if one is avoiding certain ingredients for health diets or ethical diets. Gemini seamlessly switches between photo recognition (for pictures of food) and Optical Character Recognition (for ingredient labels). Gemini also researches and provides a recommendation.
How we built it
The idea was entered into Google Gemini A.I. studio as a single starting prompt and refined from there.
Challenges we ran into
The development was smooth, only once or twice did I have to back up, restore the previous version and re-prompt. Mostly regarding how a user might use the same photo twice.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Idea iteration. The app initially began as an allergy scanner. But grew in scope to become an ingredient scanner, for users following any sort of diet (vegan, gluten-free, etc.) for any reason.
What we learned
I learned to keep an eye out for opportunities to make the app expand. The idea may grow in unexpected ways!
What's next for Agent Ingredients
After this hackathon, I be making the app public and free to the world. Something so useful, so easily made in just a few days, that builds good habits and is potentially lifesaving, should be free.
