AI-19 Risk Calculator

Inspiration

Our project was inspired by the COVID-19 crisis. We knew that we needed to spread awareness about how vulnerable people truly are to the virus in order to encourage people to take precautions.

What it does

Our AI-19 Advisor takes in a person's race, gender, age, location, and NPIs and uses this information to calculate their mortality risk for COVID-19.

How we built it

We built this project majorly using python. In addition, we used Heroku to display our app. Our creation and development process included data collection/mining, a statistical analysis, and the AI programming.

Challenges we ran into

The major challenge that we ran into was the integration of the app. We had to get through a lot of errors and issues when it come to connecting the front-end and back-end, but we luckily managed to figure it out just in time!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the algorithms we programmed (linear and polynomial regression). As we had previous Python Knowledge, this was a great opportunity to take that to the next level and explore data science. We were also proud of our collaboration in a limited time frame as we gave our best effort and enjoyed learning and overcoming all the obstacles together.

What we learned

We learned a lot about data analysis with Python with libraries like sckit-learn. We also learned about using Heroku in conjunction with GitHub as it was great to further explore platforms. Though the learning curve was high, using online resources greatly helped us apply our knowledge!

What's next for AI-19 Risk Calculator

As of right now, our calculator only utilizes age, race, gender, location, and NPIs to calculate one's mortality risk. However, it's well known that prior health conditions play a huge role in one's mortality risk to COVID-19 as well. Because of the time restraint, we weren't able to include health conditions as an factor, but that's definitely what we aim to do next.
