Inspiration-

  • Lacunae in existing mental health programs/ systems. Poor availability of hotlines for persons at risk of self-harm and suicide. Rising incidence of mental health issues.

What it does - -Bridges the gap between emergency health services and non-emergency mental health professionals. Screens persons who lack immediate access to a qualified mental health professional for risk of self-harm/ suicide/ harm to others. Provide reassurance and help combat loneliness among users such survivors of trauma. ? Guide persons to the nearest available medical help in case of completed self-harm such as intentional poisoning/ substance abuse/ other bodily harm. ? Direct users to their nearest available mental health professional/ social workers/ clinic or hospital for emergency contraception/ legal assistance as and when required.

Challenges we ran into - -Collaboration with actual mental health professionals. -Algorithmic one-size-fits-all approach. -An absence of source material to train the Bot.

Accomplishments... - -Proud of making a start

What we learned - -The lacuna is real. -We'll know more only after it is put to test.

What's next ... - -Refinement of the script. -Acceptance by the medical community. -Participation of social workers and mental health professionals. -Forming connections with service providers and concerned legal parties.
