Inspiration
AgroSmart is a web platform that helps farmers manage their farming activities in one place. It provides live weather updates, soil information, market prices, crop management tools, learning resources, and a marketplace for buying and selling agricultural products. Organizations can post contracts and connect with farmers, while mentors can share their knowledge and guide the farming community. Our goal is to make farming decisions easier with the help of real-time data and AI-powered recommendations.
What it does
AgroSmart is a web platform that helps farmers manage their farming activities in one place.
How we built it
We built AgroSmart using React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express. For the database, we used Supabase (PostgreSQL), and the application is deployed on Vercel. We integrated multiple APIs to fetch weather, soil, market price, and crop guide data. We also designed separate dashboards for farmers, organizations, and mentors so each user gets features that match their needs.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was bringing together different APIs because each one returned data in a different format. We also had to design a platform that supports three different types of users without making the interface confusing. Another challenge was deciding which features to include during the hackathon since there were many ideas but limited time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to build a working platform that combines multiple agricultural services into one place. The live weather, market prices, multilingual support, role-based dashboards, and overall user experience came together better than we expected. Seeing all these features work together was one of our biggest achievements during the project.
What we learned
This project taught us a lot about building scalable full-stack applications and working with real-world APIs. We also learned how important it is to understand users before designing features. Building AgroSmart gave us experience in solving practical problems with technology while improving our teamwork, planning, and problem-solving skills.
What's next for AgroSmart
This is only the beginning. We plan to add more AI features such as crop disease detection using images, yield prediction, and personalized farming recommendations. We also want to develop Android and iOS apps, integrate IoT sensors for smart farming, support offline access for remote areas, and improve the marketplace with secure payments and contract management. Our long-term vision is to make AgroSmart a trusted digital platform that helps farmers across Nepal make smarter decisions and improve their livelihoods.
