Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from my partnership with UNICEF, where we received Arduino tools to aid in agricultural innovation. Seeing the struggles of local farmers with unpredictable weather and inefficient farming practices, I wanted to create a solution that leverages technology to improve their livelihoods. Additionally, my personal journey into coding—starting from YouTube tutorials and Vodacom's Code Like a Girl program, motivated me to develop a platform to teach young girls how to code, empowering them with essential tech skills.

What it does

It uses Arduino-based tools to monitor soil moisture, humidity, UV levels, and other critical factors to optimize agricultural practices. It offers an educational platform designed to teach coding to young girls , promoting technology education and fostering future tech leaders.

How we built it

Agricultural Monitoring Tool: Utilized Arduino sensors to gather data on soil moisture, humidity, and UV levels. Developed a user-friendly interface for farmers to view real-time data and make informed decisions.

Educational Application: Built a mobile and web-based platform using modern programming languages and frameworks. Included interactive coding lessons and projects to engage young learners.

Challenges we ran into

Technical Challenges: Integrating multiple sensors with the Arduino board for accurate data collection. Creating a seamless and intuitive user interface for the educational application.

Resource Limitations: Limited access to advanced technological tools and resources. Ensuring the sustainability of the project within the constraints of our resources.

Community Engagement: Building trust and encouraging participation from local farmers. Motivating young girls and kids to take an interest in coding and technology.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully developing a working prototype of the Arduino-based agricultural monitoring tool.

Laying the groundwork for an innovative solution that has the potential to make a significant impact.

And hopes of forming valuable partnerships with local farmers and educational institutions.

What we learned

The importance of integrating technology with traditional practices to drive efficiency and productivity.

Effective ways to engage and teach coding to young children, especially girls, who are underrepresented in tech.

How to navigate and overcome resource constraints and technical challenges to deliver impactful solutions.

What's next for AgriTech Empowerment:Farming and Coding Education

Building the Prototypes: Developing the initial versions of the agricultural monitoring tool and the educational application.

Testing and Feedback: Piloting the solutions with local farmers and young learners to gather feedback and make improvements. Scaling the Project: Expanding the agricultural monitoring system to more regions and communities.

Enhancing the Educational Platform: Adding more advanced coding lessons and features to the application.

Building a Community: Creating a support network for farmers and young learners to share knowledge and experiences.

Exploring Startup Potential: Evaluating the feasibility of evolving the project into a sustainable startup to maximize its impact.
