Inspiration

Agricultural value chains in Ethiopia remain fragmented, and smallholder farmers struggle to access verified seeds, reliable agricultural information, and unified digital services. High crop loss and financial instability often stem from uncertified seeds and limited agronomic guidance. These challenges inspired the development of AgriTech One, an AI-powered agricultural platform designed to bring verified seeds and intelligent decision support into a single, accessible ecosystem.

What it Does

AgriTech One begins with the Verified Seed Marketplace (MVP):

Farmers can register and authenticate using phone credentials. Browse and request available seeds. Be verified through an administrator dashboard. View the status of their orders. Other modules—including AI-driven seed and crop analysis, weather and soil recommendations, SMS/USSD functionality, fertilizer marketplace, community learning hub, and multilingual intelligent support—remain in design or prototype stages for future development.

How We Built It

Frontend: React, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Next.js App Router Backend: Next.js API Routes, Node.js, MongoDB Atlas Authentication: NextAuth credentials provider• Admin dashboard for verification and management of orders and users Secure role-based routing using server session validation REST endpoints for order/user CRUD operations Responsive UI adapting to device constraints Server-side sessions and dynamic fetching for live counts

Challenges We Ran Into

Designing for low-tech environments and multilingual access requirements Mapping real-world seed movement to a digital workflow Implementing secure credential login using phone identifiers Stabilizing dynamic session-protected server components in Next.js Planning scalable data models for future modules like AI and weather integration Addressing budget constraints for compute-intensive ML components

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Successfully launched a functional Verified Seed Marketplace MVP Enabled end-to-end verification of seed requests to improve trust and transparency Built a responsive, secure platform that accommodates low-tech user scenarios Established a foundation for scaling into AI and intelligent agricultural recommendations

What We Learned

Authentication and authorization workflows are crucial in agricultural digital platforms where trust is limited Farmers require extremely simple UX, minimal text, and intuitive flows Reliable seed sourcing requires end-to-end verification workflows Agricultural platforms must plan for offline or low-bandwidth fallbacks Integration of AI and recommendations should follow adoption and usability validation

What's Next for Agritech One

Expand with AI seed and crop analysis, weather and soil recommendations, and intelligent decision support Implement SMS/USSD functionality for low-connectivity farmers Build a fertilizer marketplace, community learning hub, and multilingual intelligent support Continue refining usability and adoption strategies before integrating advanced modules
