Inspiration
Agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, yet millions of farmers still face outdated systems, unpredictable weather, and unfair markets. We wanted to create a digital tool that empowers farmers with real-time insights, inventory management, and direct access to customers making farming smarter, more sustainable, and more profitable.
What it does
- AgriSmart is a farmer-first mobile app with two user roles: farmers and customers.
- Farmers can manage their inventory, track seasonal analysis, get weather forecasts, and receive alerts about water shortages, pests, or diseases.
- The app provides market price comparisons across regions, resource utilization tips, and crop growth guides tailored to land size and soil type.
- Farmers can also create a seller account, publish their products, and earn directly from customers — supported by dashboards, earnings reports, and motivational badges.
- Customers benefit from fresh, traceable, and affordable produce, strengthening the connection between fields and families. ## How we built it
- Using Figma, we created the app’s UI/UX flow — from the homepage and side menu to pages like seasonal analysis, inventory, market prices, weather forecasts, and the seller dashboard.
- Data & APIs → AgriSmart can use weather APIs like OpenWeather to fetch forecasts and rainfall patterns, while databases store seasonal crop trends. Regional market data can also be integrated to show farmers real-time price comparisons across different areas. All of this information is presented as easy-to-read graphs and charts so farmers can quickly make decisions.
- WhatsApp Integration → Since WhatsApp is already widely used in Pakistan, AgriSmart can connect with the WhatsApp Business API to send direct notifications. Farmers will instantly get alerts for low inventory, out-of-stock items, upcoming weather risks, or urgent seasonal warnings, even if they aren’t actively using the app.
- Modular Architecture → Each part of the app (inventory, seasonal analysis, weather forecasts, market prices) is designed as a standalone module. This allows future features like AI-based crop recommendations, pest or disease detection from photos, and financial tools (like micro-loans or credit scoring) to be added smoothly without disrupting the core system. ## Challenges we ran into
- Designing a system that is powerful yet simple enough for farmers with limited digital literacy.
- Ensuring data like weather forecasts and market prices are accurate, localized, and updated in real time.
- Balancing technical feasibility with the wide range of features we wanted to include.
- Building trust with farmers who are often skeptical of new digital solutions. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a comprehensive solution that goes beyond just weather or pricing apps by addressing the full farming cycle.
- Designing a platform that not only manages farming but also opens new income streams for farmers.
- Building an idea that is scalable across regions and adaptable for both small and large-scale farms. ## What we learned
- By studying the challenges faced by farmers in Pakistan—like unpredictable weather, unfair market prices, and limited access to digital tools—we realized the importance of designing solutions that are simple, familiar, and practical. We learned that real impact comes from using data and technology in a farmer-friendly way, such as WhatsApp alerts, clear graphs, and easy inventory management, instead of overcomplicated systems.
What's next for AgriSmart
- AgriSmart is just the beginning of a farming revolution. Our next step is to transform it from a prototype into a working app that delivers real-time weather forecasts, market price comparisons, and instant WhatsApp alerts to every farmer.
- But technology alone isn’t enough. We aim to raise awareness among farmers in Pakistan who lack digital literacy or financial resources, by offering local-language support, farmer training, and an affordable, accessible platform.
