Inspiration

India's grain market is one of the largest in the world, yet it still runs on offline, trust-based middlemen networks. Farmers don't get fair prices, buyers can't verify quality, and everyone depends on manual checks. I realized a simple truth: there is no transparent, pan-India platform that shows the real health of a crop before it’s sold.

Seeing this gap — and the potential of satellite imagery, data insights, and modern design — inspired me to build AgriSetu, a bridge that connects farmers and buyers directly with trust, technology, and transparency.

What it does

AgriSetu is a satellite-verified grain marketplace that removes middlemen and connects farmers directly with buyers.

It does this through five core features:

  1. Farmer Verification & Farm Mapping (Aadhaar + GPS)

  2. Automatic Crop Health Insights using NDVI, NDMI, NDWI, SAVI & weather data

  3. Crop Health Card for every grain lot

Satellite scores

Moisture & vegetation trends

Farm photos & location

Predicted yield

  1. Marketplace for Direct Buying & Selling

Price negotiation

Offers from buyers

Transparent quality data

  1. Secure Escrow Payments & Logistics Tracking

For buyers, AgriSetu looks premium and corporate. For farmers, AgriSetu is simple, friendly, and easy to use.

End result: Buyers get verified grains. Farmers get higher income. The market becomes transparent.

How we built it

AgriSetu is built by combining modern agri-tech, AI and clean UI/UX:

Frontend: Figma UI designs → React Native / Flutter workflow

Backend: Node.js / Firebase / Python for satellite processing

Satellite Data: NDVI, NDMI, NDWI, SAVI, rainfall & temperature via open datasets

AI Models:

Crop health interpretation

Price prediction

Quality risk scoring

Database: Firestore / Postgres

Maps Layer: Google Maps + satellite tile overlays

Payment: Escrow system and payout ledger

Every crop lot automatically pulls its satellite insights and generates a verified Crop Health Card. Then users can list, buy, negotiate and track orders.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Finding clean, usable satellite datasets Understanding resolutions, frequencies, and cloud-free data was difficult.

  2. Designing two separate UIs

Farmers need ultra-simple screens

Buyers need premium, data-rich dashboards

  1. Making complex data easy to understand Turning NDVI/NDMI/SAVI into simple scores took experimentation.

  2. Building trust digitally Farmers trust people, not apps — designing around trust was a challenge.

  3. Balancing scope vs. hackathon timelines The full AgriSetu vision is huge, so staying focused was tough.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a unique, India-first concept that blends agri insights + commerce

Designed both farmer-first and corporate buyer UI experiences

Successfully combined satellite intelligence with grain trading

Created a clear Crop Health Card that farmers can actually understand

Built something that can realistically scale across India

Created a system that can genuinely increase farmer income and reduce buyer risk

What we learned

Satellite data is powerful, but must be simplified for real users

Farmers value ease, trust and clarity more than fancy features

Buyers need transparency, documentation and data-backed proof

Good UX can change adoption drastically

A transparent supply chain is possible — with the right design

Middlemen exist mainly because the system lacks trust, not because people prefer them

India’s agricultural problems are solvable with the right combination of data + empathy

What's next for AgriSetu

Here’s what we will build next:

  1. AI-powered Crop Quality Prediction Predict grain quality before harvest.

  2. Farmer Micro-Loans Based on Transaction History Low-risk financing using verified payouts.

  3. Traceability QR Codes on Every Grain Lot Buyers can scan and see satellite history + lab reports.

  4. Pan-India Logistics Partnerships Easy pickup + delivery.

  5. Direct-to-Consumer Grain Boxes Families can buy clean, pesticide-free grains straight from farmers.

  6. Hyperlocal Price Forecasting AI-based market trend predictions.

  7. Mobile App for Farmers (Offline Mode) Designed for low-signal rural areas.

  8. Scaling to multiple crops & states Wheat → Rice → Pulses → Millets → Oilseeds.

AgriSetu will become India’s trusted, satellite-verified grain network — accessible, transparent, and fair for everyone.
