Inspiration
Farming faces challenges like inefficient water use, unpredictable weather, and crop health monitoring. AgriSense was inspired by the need to empower farmers with real-time insights so they can make informed decisions, reduce waste, and increase yields.
What it does
AgriSense is a smart agriculture system that monitors soil moisture, temperature, and humidity using IoT sensors. It provides actionable insights to farmers via a mobile/web app, helping optimize irrigation, detect crop stress early, and improve overall productivity.
How we built it
We combined IoT sensors, microcontrollers, and a cloud-based data analytics platform. Sensor data is collected and processed in real time, and actionable recommendations are delivered through an intuitive dashboard. We also implemented alerts and notifications for critical conditions like low soil moisture or extreme temperatures.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring accurate and reliable sensor readings in varying environmental conditions. Managing real-time data transmission without connectivity issues. Designing a user-friendly interface suitable for farmers with varying levels of technical expertise.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a fully functional prototype that can monitor multiple crops simultaneously. Successfully implemented real-time alerts for irrigation and crop stress. Created a scalable architecture that can be extended to more sensors and farm locations.
What we learned
The importance of robust sensor calibration for real-world conditions. How data analytics can translate raw sensor data into actionable decisions. Teamwork and iteration are crucial for solving practical problems in agriculture technology.
What's next for AgriSense
Adding predictive analytics for crop disease and yield forecasting. Integrating automated irrigation systems for fully smart farms. Expanding deployment to larger farms and multiple crop types.
