Inspiration
Agrimeant was developed in order to create a sharing ecosystem between farmers which would benefit the community as a whole instead of benefiting just a single individual.
What it does
Agrimeant links farmers to other farmers in a neighborhood.Farmers can rent machinery or provide their own machinery for rent to other farmers.
How we built it
We developed an Iphone application similar to Uber where farmers could advertise their machinery and based on requirements and location of the farmers, the machinery available in his locality would be displayed on a map. If a farmer decides to go ahead and rent a machine, the application displays how much the farmer has to pay to rent the machine. The cost is calculated based on how far the renter is located from the machine and also on the type of machine he wants to rent. We used John Deere's Machine API to store and provide information about machines. We used Capital One's API to manage financial transactions of the application and Google maps to point the vehicle locations on a map.
Challenges we ran into
Displaying machinery at a location based on user selections Managing the transactions of the users
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Development on Google maps Creation of an iphone application
What we learned
We got an insight of what happens in the agriculture and finance industry and how they are interrelated. From a technical point of view, we learned how to develop on google maps and use new APIs.
What's next for Agrimeant
At the moment, we are only able to allow users to rent machinery. In future, we would like to create an ecosystem where farmers could even share other farming resources like fertilizers, seeds and also discuss about farming techniques with other farmers.
