Inspiration
Agriculture is one of the biggest industries in Nigeria, yet many farmers struggle to access available funding opportunities because grant discovery, eligibility checks, documentation, and application processes are complex and time-consuming.
We were inspired by the gap between farmers who need financial support and the opportunities that already exist but remain difficult to access. Many farmers miss grants not because they lack potential, but because they lack the tools, guidance, and resources to navigate the process.
This led us to build AgriGrant AI — an intelligent automation platform designed to simplify agricultural grant discovery and application for farmers.
What We Built
AgriGrant AI is an agentic AI-powered grant processing solution that manages the complete lifecycle of a farmer's grant application.
The platform combines:
- AI Agents for grant discovery, eligibility assessment, document understanding, and proposal generation
- UiPath Maestro for workflow orchestration and human-in-the-loop processes
- RPA automation for form submission and portal interaction
- A farmer-friendly web application for collecting information, tracking progress, and communicating updates
The goal is to allow a farmer to provide their farm details once and have an intelligent system guide them through finding suitable grants, preparing documents, generating proposals, and monitoring submissions.
How We Built It
We designed AgriGrant AI as a multi-agent workflow:
Grant Discovery Agent
- Searches and identifies relevant agricultural funding opportunities based on farmer information.
Eligibility & Assessment Agent
- Evaluates grant requirements against farmer data.
- Provides eligibility insights, missing requirements, and recommendations.
Document Understanding Agent
- Identifies required documents.
- Analyzes uploaded documents and prepares them for submission.
Proposal Agent
- Generates customized grant proposals based on the farmer's project, needs, and grant requirements.
Submission & Follow-up Agent
- Communicates updates with farmers and manages application tracking.
UiPath Maestro acts as the orchestration layer connecting AI agents, automation robots, APIs, and human approvals into one continuous process.
What We Learned
Building AgriGrant AI improved our understanding of designing real-world AI automation systems.
We learned:
- How to structure AI agents with specific responsibilities instead of relying on one general AI system.
- How to combine deterministic automation (RPA) with non-deterministic AI decision-making.
- The importance of validation, error handling, and human review in AI-powered workflows.
- How enterprise automation platforms can manage long-running processes involving multiple systems and users.
Challenges We Faced
One of the biggest challenges was managing communication between AI agents and automation robots.
AI agents can produce flexible outputs, while RPA workflows require structured and predictable data. We had to design validation steps and error handling mechanisms to prevent incorrect information from affecting downstream automation.
Another challenge was designing a workflow that could handle real-world scenarios such as missing documents, unclear grant requirements, rejected applications, and human approvals.
These challenges helped us create a more reliable and scalable architecture.
Future Vision
AgriGrant AI is not just a grant application tool; it is a digital assistant for farmers.
Our vision is to make agricultural opportunities more accessible by creating a system where farmers can discover funding, understand requirements, complete applications, and receive guidance through intelligent automation.
