Inspiration

Agrify is motivated by the critical challenge that climate change poses to farmers globally. With over $100 billion lost annually in crops due to climate impacts, we recognized an urgent need to empower farmers with climate finance to safeguard their livelihoods. The vision is to create a system that contributes to the fight against climate change through regenerative agriculture but also directs much-needed climate finance to the farmers, from companies purchasing carbon credits to meet net-zero targets through offsets.

What it does

Agrify integrates AI and blockchain technology to validate carbon sequestration in regenerative farming. By accurately quantifying carbon captured, we facilitate the issuance of tradable verifiable carbon credits (VCUs) directly to farmers and investors, creating a new paradigm in agricultural finance, environmental stewardship, and food security.

How we built it

Our platform was developed by combining high-resolution satellite imagery from sources such as NASA and NASRDA (Nigeria), and machine learning algorithms to measure carbon offsets with precision. This technology stack is supported by the Hedera Guardian for blockchain transactions, ensuring transparency and credibility in carbon markets.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a user-friendly experience that could simplify the complexity of the guardian. Significant challenges were ensuring accuracy in carbon capture measurement, building robust AI models, and navigating the regulatory landscape of carbon markets. We still have to continue to improve what we have built so far to ensure that it can be used globally.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our collaborations with leading technology and environmental institutions such as NASRDA to get time series data for our model. We also gained acceptance into Nigeria’s first Space Accelerator and secured a pilot with FUNAAB Agricultural University for further research, these are the accomplishments we are most proud of.

What we learned

Our work has taught us the complexity of integrating various technologies for a common goal. We've gained insights into the importance of sustainability in agriculture and the potential of blockchain in creating trust in environmental markets.

What's next for Agrify: Generating VCUs Through Regenerative Agriculture

The next phase for Agrify is focused on scaling up operations. We are now raising a pre-seed round to make our intern roles permanent, onboard more farms, improve our AI's accuracy, extend our marketplace reach to enable more farmers to benefit from carbon finance and also hire a sales team to sell to multinational companies.

Agrify aims to become the leading platform for carbon capture validation in agriculture, not just in Africa, but globally, creating a sustainable future for farming and our planet.
