Inspiration

Having witnessed firsthand the struggles of small-scale farmers in Africa due to a lack of access to sufficient funds, I was inspired to find a solution. Seeing the immense potential of agriculture in driving economic growth and development across the continent, I realized that empowering farmers is key to unlocking this potential.

What it does

The Agric_Invest Platform facilitates micro-investments in African agricultural projects, empowering farmers and global investors alike. It provides a user-friendly interface for browsing projects, making investments, and tracking portfolios, fostering sustainable farming practices and regional collaboration.

How we built it

We built the Agric_Invest Platform using Ruby on Rails for full stack development and PostgreSQL for the database. Leveraging our expertise, we integrated smooth cross-border payment solutions to enable global participation. This was made possible by chimoney api for cross border payments. Africa's Talking SMS api was used for receiving investment updates via SMS.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating cross-border payments proved challenging due to regulatory complexities and technical intricacies, especially with Chimoney. Additionally, as primarily backend developers, we faced frontend hurdles, requiring lots if research, collaboration and resourcefulness to overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have developed a robust platform that addresses the funding gap in African agriculture while fostering community engagement and sustainability. Overcoming technical challenges and delivering a seamless user experience are significant accomplishments for our team. Though so far, we have just built a simple MVP.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained insights into the complexities of cross-border payments and front-end development, honing our skills and problem-solving abilities. We also learned about the importance of community collaboration and the potential of technology to drive positive change in agriculture.

What's next for Agriculture_Invest

Moving forward, we aim to expand the platform's reach and impact by forging strategic partnerships and enhancing features based on user feedback. We're committed to continually improving the platform's functionality, scalability, and security to empower more farmers and investors across Africa.
