There are many impoverished communities in the central valley and we wanted to provide a easy accessible way to give them basic data on the farms around their community as well as some economic information on their own produce. Our projects pulls data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and makes it much more easier to read especially for people who are not tech literate. We built it using basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the front end, as well as python and SQLite for the back-end and currently only have a localhost website but once our product is finished we can deploy to an online website. Some challenges we ran into were our original methods, we originally made this in react but connecting the front-end to the back-end proved too timely and so we switched gears to javascript and html. Furthermore, getting a good data set proved difficult as even the USDA website proved very lacking in data but we pulled together as much as we could to provide good results. We are proud to eventually present this tool to the city to provide to local farmers to give them information that could help them make decisions regarding their future crop. We each learned more about the two sides of the coin that is front-end and back-end to bolster our skills to eventually become full-stack developers. We also learned much about the state of agriculture all across the US which was awesome. In the future we hope to fully integrate ART into a city website or independently publish it to hopefully help the central valley community as well as any other state in the US to learn just a bit more about their states agriculture.
