Inspiration
Farmers often depend on intermediaries to reach buyers and may struggle to access useful market information. As a farmer's daughter, I wanted to explore how technology could help connect farmers and buyers more directly.
What it does
AgriConnect is a farmer-to-buyer digital marketplace. It provides separate farmer and buyer workflows, a produce marketplace, agricultural assistance through an AI feature, and market-price lookup functionality.
How we built it
We built the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a Python FastAPI backend and SQLite database integration. We also developed a market-price module designed to retrieve agricultural price information from a configured data source.
Challenges we faced
Integrating the frontend with the backend, handling API responses, testing user workflows, and troubleshooting AI and market-data integration were important challenges during development.
What's next
We aim to improve live market-data coverage, strengthen AI responses, deploy the application for public access, and make it easier for farmers and buyers to connect.
Impact
Our goal is to make agricultural information and produce discovery more accessible while exploring ways to reduce farmers' dependence on intermediaries.
