Inspiration
Farmers often face crop losses due to late disease detection, unpredictable weather, and dependency on middlemen for selling produce. After interacting with farmers and observing these real-world problems, we were inspired to create a smart agriculture solution that combines AI, drones, and location-based technology to support farmers end-to-end.
What it does
AGRI SENS is an AI-powered smart agriculture platform with user and admin modules. Drones capture crop images and use Gemini 3 Pro to detect diseases, recommend treatments, and perform targeted solution spraying. The system predicts weather and analyzes NASA satellite–based soil data, provides voice-assisted guidance, and enables location-based direct farmer-to-buyer connections, eliminating middlemen.
How we built it
We built AGRI SENS using a combination of hardware and software. A drone equipped with a camera and spraying system is integrated with an ESP32 for sensor data and HTTP communication. The software layer includes AI-based image analysis using Gemini 3 Pro, weather and satellite data processing, a voice assistant, and a location-aware marketplace with user and admin dashboards.
Challenges we ran into
Key challenges included achieving accurate disease detection from aerial images, integrating drone hardware with cloud-based AI, managing district-wise buyer data efficiently, handling real-time location filtering, and optimizing system performance with limited hardware resources.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully integrated AI-driven disease detection with drone-based action
- Implemented precision spraying to reduce chemical usage
- Built a location-based, middleman-free buyer discovery system across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu
- Designed scalable user and admin modules
- Created a complete end-to-end smart farming solution
What we learned
We learned how to integrate AI, IoT, drones, and satellite data into a real-world system. The project strengthened our skills in system architecture, hardware–software integration, data handling, and designing technology that directly impacts farmers’ livelihoods.
What's next for AGRI SENS
Next, we plan to add real-time market price prediction, multilingual voice support, mobile app deployment, AI-based yield estimation, and expanded crop coverage. We also aim to pilot AGRI SENS with farmer communities to validate and scale the solution.
