Miss Nova

🧠 Inspiration

We’ve always dreamed of having a teacher who could meet us exactly where we are — someone we could ask anything, any time, and get an engaging, personalized lesson in return. But real education is often inaccessible, unaffordable, and painfully boring. So we asked: What if your teacher was an AI agent? One who could create custom courses on the fly, track your progress like Duolingo, and cheer you on with a bit of charm.

That's how Miss Nova was born — an elegant, animated AI teacher who can help you learn anything, one micro-course at a time.

🎓 What it does

Miss Nova turns any topic prompt into a fully interactive learning journey. Each course includes:

• A 5-slide story-driven curriculum with quirky checkpoint names
  
• AI-generated slides and a short video explanation
  
• A quick quiz to lock in your understanding
  
• Gamified feedback with XP, badges, and streaks
  
• A personal learning map to track your journey

Learners can also share their course with others, creating a ripple of curiosity across communities.

🔧 How we built it

We used:

• OpenAI for generating course content, slides, and quizzes
  
• Next.js + Tailwind for the frontend
  
• Custom gamification logic to track XP, badges, and streaks
  
• Lottie and 2D sprite animations to bring Miss Nova to life
  
• A dynamic UI to visualize course journeys and allow easy content progression
• All generated and scaffolded by Bolt.new

The result is a playful yet structured learning experience that feels human, fresh, and emotionally rewarding.

🧗 Challenges we ran into

• Designing a mascot that feels approachable and teacher-like, yet fun and not too childish, took multiple iterations
  
• Creating a cohesive journey-based learning UI that felt intuitive without overwhelming the user
  
• Balancing the amount of content per lesson to make it feel bite-sized but substantial
  
• Implementing XP and badge systems in a way that felt motivating rather than gimmicky
