Inspiration

We started brainstorming from the theme: Growth, which led us to explore the possibility of a digital garden for college students. As fourth-year students, we identified moments during our college careers when we wished to receive some guidance or grow our social networks. Whether this was due to language/cultural barriers, seeking career insights, or just general help on classes; we wanted to create a space where one could curate groups to establish relationships with mentors/mentees and discover knowledge accumulated by the community over time.

What it does

AGORA provides users with a personalized homepage that houses their interest groups. Within groups they can communicate with peers and mentors, schedule in-person meetups, and cultivate community over shared interests. Additionally, they can seek out other groups to expand their social circles by searching interest tags and suggestions based on past interests and demographics. All groups are open for anyone to have a look and provide options to incorporate new groups into their homepage.

How we built it

Given the time frame, we wanted to flesh out what the experience would feel like through a FIGMA prototype. We built out components and their variables, animated interactions, and explored the app's features through two users.

What we learned

We were challenged with the experience in how we needed to prioritize making features that made AGORA feel tangible. We took all our ambitious ideas and had to figure out what we could do during this weekend to make this project a success.

What's next for AGORA

If we had the time to further develop the project, we wanted to explore the personalization setting in the homepage, where users can adjust their view and prioritize their interests. We also want to build out an onboarding process that allows users to quickly start building their gardens while giving guidance and suggestions based on the information from their onboarding. We also want to provide a tailored experience for Android users as well since the visual and interaction language is different. Lastly, we would further develop ways for users to interact IRL and have touchpoints to encourage maintaining relationships.
