Inspiration
Udemy + GitHub
On Github, developers collaborate to create software together, in part of something called “open source software”, which is based on a gift economy--doing it mostly out of intrinsic motivation. On Udemy, users can create and upload video courses, which other users will then take. Agora takes the “open-source-community-collaboration” model of Github, but instead of software, users collaborate to create courses.
In a nutshell, we marry the architectural framework of Github with the content of Udemy to create a new model of online education that we call: open source learning.
What it does
An online learning platform where users collaborate to create their own virtual learning communities, or Agorums, which revolve around open source education content.
How we built it
React frontend, express backend with postgresql database and solidity smart contracts
Challenges we ran into
Time constraints!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Implementing our own cryptocurrency token system linking our frontend to ethereum's blockchain network
What we learned
We strengthened our web development skills and learned a ton about blockchain development
What's next for Agora - a community-driven education platform
Fleshing out our course implementation system, decentralizing further aspects of our project by moving storage on-chain (where feasible), finishing our tokenomics scheme and adding more smart contracts with greater security.
