Inspiration

I am a Math graduate with 20 years of work in IT industry in Canada in Romania. I have moved to Romania with my son - born and raised in Canda - and needed to find an alternative to the public education system here, so he will adapt easily. Knowing both school systems - Romanian and Canadian - I have realized that there are things which are totally missing in Romania, such as soft skills (emotional intelligence, presentation skills, communication skills). Also, kids-friendly coding classes. Kids and teens need to know how to code and how to think entrepreneurial in order to remain relevant in the world we live in today - so I have decided to found this school, where I teach them how to code and how to grow an entrepreneurial mindset.. The school name is agileroo and it started functioning in october 2019.

What it does

For now, online coding and entrepreneurship classes for kids and teens, with Live mentors. Our courses are gradually increasing in complexity - kids which started with front end programming went for python and then for python advanced course, for example. For entrepreneurhisp we prefer offline events - such as hackathons - but for now we are running some workshops online about business model canvas, how to pitch, etc.

How I built it

We have a presentation site - we are in the process of building our own learning platform, which will allow our courses to be taught to kids all over the world by mentors all over the world.

Challenges I ran into

We are looking for partners in Europe. Looking also for good developers :-) Looking for passionate trainers who would like to teach kids and teens how to code.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

In 6 months since we have started our school, we have 4 series of kids and 2 series of teens which graduated the school. We have also organized, on March 7th, first hackathon for kids grades 5-8 in Romania, in partnership with the Facutly of Automatics and Computing in Iasi, Romania - here is the link to the event:

The challenge for their projects was "School of the future". This was only 1 month ago...but look at our world now!

What I learned

I have learned that I can motivate kids and teens and that I found tremendous satisfaction in working with them. I also like to run my business and alwasy searching for ideas to grow it.

What's next for agileroo

In the first phase - to continue teaching kids and teens online how to code, diversifying the content of our classes. Looking for private schools around Europe interested to partner with us.

In a 2nd phase - to use the power of AI and ML in order to create better tools for remote learning - the first being our own learning platform, which will connect kids/teens from aroud the world with tutors/mentors passionate about education ( this is where the altorithms will kick-in, in order to match kids and teens with their perfect mentors).
