Inspiration

At Texas A&M, we noticed a recurring problem: students with great ideas often struggled to find the right teammates, collaborators, or mentors. Departments were siloed, and there was no central hub for cross-disciplinary innovation. We were inspired to build something that would bridge this gap—something that felt authentically Aggie.

What it does

AggieAssemble is a platform where students, professors, and alumni can:

  • Pitch creative and research-based projects
  • Find and match with teammates based on skills, tools, and availability
  • Schedule in-person or virtual meetups
  • Connect with mentors and subject matter experts
  • Organize projects using a fully integrated Notion workspace

How we built it

We designed a high-fidelity prototype using Figma and structured the user experience around three core roles: students, professors, and alumni. Each role has its own dashboard, features, and interactions. We also built a Notion-based "AggieAssemble Project Starter Kit" and designed UI elements for:

  • Project pitching
  • Team matchmaking
  • Meetup planning (with virtual support)
  • Task boards and documentation via Notion

Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing the needs of three different user types
  • Structuring a clean UI that’s scalable but still friendly
  • Integrating Notion in a way that feels native, not tacked-on
  • Scoping down our feature set to meet submission deadlines
  • Figma limitations around real-time testing and linking

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A fully thought-out multi-role dashboard system
  • Custom-designed Notion starter kit for project collaboration
  • Intuitive user flows for project pitching and collaboration
  • Built a solution that genuinely fits TAMU’s culture and values

What we learned

  • UX changes significantly with different user roles and goals
  • Using existing platforms like Notion enhances usability and trust
  • Visual clarity is everything when designing for collaboration
  • TAMU has unique community needs, and understanding them shaped our design

What's next for AggieAssemble

  • Build a working prototype using a web stack (React + Firebase or similar)
  • Pilot test with student orgs and capstone teams
  • Expand Notion integration and explore LMS integration (e.g., Canvas)
  • Launch a TAMU-wide beta in partnership with innovation/entrepreneurship departments
