Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenges students face when asking for help or offering it. Many people feel uncomfortable asking for assistance, while others want to help but don’t have an easy way to connect. We wanted to create a system where helping others feels natural, fair, and rewarding without involving money.

What it does

Aggie TimeBank is a mobile app that allows users to exchange services using time as currency. Users can post tasks, browse available postings, and express interest in helping others. In return, they earn time credits that they can use to request help when needed.

How we built it

  • Built using React Native with Expo for mobile development
  • Used TypeScript for better code structure and reliability
  • Implemented navigation using Expo Router
  • Designed UI using React Native components and StyleSheet
  • Collaborated using GitHub with version control and branching
  • Worked with Docker and mySQL to work on linking the data

Challenges we ran into

  • Learning and implementing dynamic routing with Expo Router
  • Managing data flow between multiple pages (Home → Posting details)
  • Structuring the app to be scalable for future backend integration
  • Debugging navigation and state issues across components
  • Designing a clean and user-friendly mobile interface

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully built a fully functional multi-page mobile app
  • Implemented dynamic navigation with reusable components
  • Created a clean and intuitive UI for browsing postings
  • Structured the app in a way that can easily connect to a backend later
  • Worked effectively as a team using GitHub

What we learned

  • How to build mobile apps using React Native and Expo
  • How to use file-based routing with Expo Router
  • The importance of clean data structures and reusable components
  • How to collaborate on a shared codebase using Git and GitHub
  • Problem-solving and debugging in a real development environment

What's next for Aggie TimeBank

  • Add backend integration (Docker or mySQL)
  • Implement user authentication (login/signup)
  • Allow users to create and manage their own postings
  • Add a system to track accepted jobs and time credits
  • Improve UI/UX with more polished design and features
  • Expand the app to support real campus communities
