Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project stemmed from our experiences as a student at Texas A&M. Finding someone to study with can be difficult, so we decided to create this all-in-one study partner finder to help mitigate the problems of studying alone.
What it does
This program pairs students with other students nearby and allows the ability for users to post group study sessions. Furthermore, you can view the profile of other students and directly connect with them to build a personal network of study partners.
How we built it
We utilized HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Firebase database, and Google Maps API to organize our website and manage our user data.
Challenges we ran into
When working on this project, we experienced Merge difficulties throughout the Github workflow processes, causing us to manually review differences in code. We were able to successfully merge our code as well as optimizing our workflow by separating the main code file into separate files. Additionally, we ran into obstacles such as: finding a balance between matching people quickly and finding people who are nearby and studying the same material.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to implement Google Maps into our website and incorporate code to create a interactive map for users to find study partners. We also effectively used GitHub to organize our workflow and separate tasks.
What we learned
We learned how to use GitHub to organize code and develop a collaborative system. We also gained immense skill in HTML, Javascript, and CSS to develop a working website.
What's next for Aggie Study Match
In the future, Aggie Study Match can include helpful features such as chat functionality, filtering, calendar integration, and Texas A&M tutoring integration. We are also aiming to develop a matching system that will determine the best match recommendation according to your profile.
