Inspiration

We often found it difficult to find out when popups occur on campus, as all of the details for it were never consolidated in one place. We had the same issue with free food on campus, as the FFIN groupme was cluttered with junk messages, making it difficult to find important information.

What it does

Each event has its own chat where students can ask questions, share updates, and help others decide whether an event is worth attending. Events also include a location on our interactive campus map, allowing users to find opportunities near them and receive notifications about nearby activities.

Additionally, our event busyness tracker allows students attending an event to report how crowded it is, giving others a better idea of what to expect before heading over.

We allow users to sign in with their tamu email, which makes you confirm your email before using the site. It allows access their profile and edit notifications, add events, and many other features.

Our demo video lost its audio and we did not have time to rerecord, which is why there are some breaks.

How we built it

We began by creating a document that outlined our plan for the project, and then proceeded to make a base design for the website by drawing in figma. We then actually built the project in figma and used it to refrence for the front end. We then split the tasks between the three group members, one of us on front end and two on backend. We ensured to push often and were able to create a working website!

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of challenges with the scope of the project, which led us to be rushing last minute to put things together, along with having difficulties making the bot successfully add to the site. We were able to get it to work in the groupme, but the website kept presenting issues in the last hour.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of making a fully working website with a function front end and back end, as it's all three of our group members building anything of this size. We were all pretty unfamiliar with everything we did, so we're really proud of putting everything together in the end and learning a lot.

What we learned

We learnt how to successfully collaborate in GitHub, how to link front end and back end, use Supabase, create automated bots, and a whole lot about time management and teamwork.

What's next for AggieFree!

We really enjoyed building this website, and we really hope to extend so that our bot can finally successfully post in the site, not just the groupme. We also hope to make the phone notifications actually work properly.
