Inspiration
Ever feel like planning your courses is super difficult? Have you ever had a headache searching for prerequisites? That's why we decided to create the Aggie Atlas. Traditional degree planning methods often lack flexibility and personalization, leading to confusion and delays in graduation. We envisioned a tool that not only simplifies course selection but also enhances the overall student experience at A&M.
What it does
The Aggie Atlas is a comprehensive degree planner designed for Texas A&M students. It allows users to visualize their degree progress, track prerequisites, and receive general advising.
How we built it
We used NextJS for a smooth and responsive frontend. We used ClerkJS and MongoDB for user authentication. MongoDB also stores the course details and user generated content. GeminiAPI was used for the advising. We also employed Git for version control to keep the development process organized.
Challenges we ran into
Creating the flow chart for the user experience was challenging, and connecting all the services together was also very confusing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully launched a prototype of Aggie Atlas for computer science students and got all our services to work.
What we learned
We learned the importance of communication and collaboration, as well as learning how to work as a team through various different technologies.
What's next for Aggie Atlas
Next, we plan to expand our application to other majors and to make recommendations for our users for what courses they should take next.
