AgenticPay: The Trustless Payment Protocol Inspiration The world is rapidly moving towards an autonomous economy where AI agents and athletes operate at high speeds, but our payment systems are still stuck in the past. We saw that young athletes and AI-driven startups face the same issue: a lack of trust and slow settlement times in financial deals. We were inspired to build a bridge where "Code is Law," ensuring that if a job is done, the payment is guaranteed without human interference.
What it does AgenticPay is a secure escrow protocol that automates performance-based payments. It allows brands or clients to lock funds in a smart contract vault. Once the predefined criteria are met—such as an athlete scoring 20 points or an AI completing a task—the protocol releases the funds instantly to the recipient's wallet. It eliminates the need for manual approvals and removes the risk of non-payment.
How we built it We built the core protocol using Solidity for the smart contracts, ensuring the logic is immutable and transparent. The project is deployed on the Arbitrum Sepolia network to take advantage of its high speed and ultra-low gas fees. For the frontend, we used React and Vite to create a high-performance, real-time dashboard. We used Hardhat for development and testing, and integrated MetaMask for secure on-chain interactions.
Challenges we ran into During development, we faced challenges with network stability and securing enough testnet ETH, which we solved by using Proof-of-Work (PoW) faucets. We also spent significant time optimizing the escrow logic to ensure funds are only released under the correct conditions. Additionally, configuring the Arbiscan API for contract verification was a technical hurdle that required precise environment setup.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud of building a fully functional MVP that can bridge assets, deploy custom tokens (MockMNEE), and execute trustless transfers in real-time. Seeing the "Transfer Successful" message on the blockchain explorer was a major milestone, proving that our mathematical certainty works.
What we learned We learned that in the Web3 space, user experience is just as important as the code. Building a clear UI that shows the status of a transaction helps build trust. We also gained a deeper understanding of Layer 2 scaling on Arbitrum and how it can make micro-payments viable for the gig and sports economy.
What's next for Agentic Pay Our next step is to integrate Chainlink Oracles to bring real-time sports and task data directly into our smart contracts. We plan to scale from a prototype to a live pilot program for local Dallas leagues and eventually expand into the broader AI-to-AI commerce market.
