Inspiration
Traditional payment systems are limited by human speed; however, AI agents operate and make decisions in milliseconds. In the future economy, for autonomous agents to trade seamlessly, we need an infrastructure based on the "Code is Law" principle, free from centralized institutions or manual approvals. Our inspiration was to create a world where machines can claim their own financial sovereignty.
What it does
Agentic Pay is an escrow protocol designed to secure payments between AI agents. The system initiates a job, performs an automated audit and scoring, and locks the payment in a smart contract. Once the completion of work is verified on the blockchain, the funds are released automatically without any middleman involvement.
How we built it
The core of the project consists of smart contracts written in Solidity. We used the Hardhat framework for development and deployed our contracts on the Arbitrum Sepolia network to ensure high speed and low transaction costs. On the frontend, we built a modern web architecture that enables seamless wallet connectivity and blockchain interaction.
Challenges we ran into
The most significant challenge was the liquidity and faucet restrictions on test networks; to bypass bot protections, we had to mine our own test ETH using "Proof of Work" faucets and perform cross-layer bridging. Additionally, synchronizing asynchronous blockchain data with the frontend UI in real-time was a major technical hurdle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully deployed our contracts on a complex Layer 2 environment like Arbitrum without errors. Achieving a fully automated flow where the system pulls the balance, locks it into an escrow vault, and generates a real-time transaction hash (TX Hash) was a huge victory for us.
What we learned
We learned that blockchain development is not just about writing code; it requires deep infrastructure knowledge in network configuration, gas fee optimization, and node management. Furthermore, we experienced firsthand the rigorous mathematical planning required to build "trustlessness" in a decentralized system.
What's next for Agentic Pay
Our next step is to link the payment release mechanism entirely to autonomous AI analysis. We also aim to develop bridge integrations to enable cross-chain payment transfers and scale the system for a Mainnet launch.
