ChronosAI

Inspiration

Every semester, students spend hours organizing schedules, checking PDFs, cross-referencing degree pathways, talking to advisors, and scrolling through RateMyProfessor. We wanted to end that repetitive process. Our goal was to use AI to automate semester planning and save students from the manual chaos. Thus, ChronosAI was born.

What It Does

ChronosAI cross-references:

  • Your degree pathway
  • Courses you've already completed
  • Public professor reviews and ratings

Using this data, it builds an optimal semester plan, matching you with professors and courses aligned with your academic and personal interests. No more mid-semester regrets or endless advising loops. ChronosAI handles the heavy lifting so you can focus on your coursework.

How We Built It

  1. Agent Layer: Built using Fetch.AI, trained with curated public professor rating data.
  2. Data Processing: Structured course and degree data into an agent-compatible format for generation and retrieval.
  3. Middleware Layer: Developed an intermediary API to manage frontend requests, secure API keys, and maintain consistent responses.
  4. Frontend: Implemented using React with Material UI (MUI) for a fast, intuitive user interface.

Challenges

University systems typically export academic data as PDFs, not developer-friendly formats like CSV or JSON. Parsing and structuring these inconsistent sources was a major obstacle. We also had to ensure the system could integrate varying formats from multiple universities.

Accomplishments

  • Efficient division of labor and rapid development under time constraints.
  • Seamless collaboration between team members with complementary skills.
  • Working prototype capable of producing meaningful semester recommendations.

What We Learned

Team cohesion and execution speed matter as much as technical skill. Deadlines are immovable; staring at them does not help. The only way forward is to build, test, and iterate.

What’s Next

  • Demo: Scheduled for presentation to judges tomorrow.
  • Future Integration: Explore adoption by universities as an advising support system.
  • Scalability: Broaden data coverage, enhance AI reasoning, and refine UI for public release.

ChronosAI: Automating academic decisions, one semester at a time.
