agentd: Orchestrating Innovation with AI

Inspiration

I'm always working on new projects and ideas. But taking a raw idea and turning it into a real plan takes a lot of time and effort. I wanted to build something that could make this process much faster and easier, so I could focus more on building and less on the early research and planning.

What it does

agentd takes your raw idea and turns it into a detailed plan. It's like having an AI team that helps you:

  • Understand your idea better: What problem it solves, how it works.
  • Do market research: Finds out about target users and competitors.
  • Create content: Generates reports, technical advice, and even social media posts with images.

Basically, it gives you a full initial plan and materials very quickly.

How we built it

We built agentd using Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK).

  • We created many small AI agents, each for a specific job (like researching competitors or writing reports).
  • We used ADK to make these agents work together in steps, sometimes one after another, sometimes at the same time.
  • We also used Google Search to get real-time info and Google Cloud Storage to save all the reports and images agentd creates.
  • It has a web interface that runs on a Flask API and a ReactJS frontend, which helps users easily interact with it.

Challenges we ran into

  • Making agents talk smoothly: Getting all the different AI agents to understand each other and pass information correctly was tricky.
  • Managing long conversations: For complex ideas, the process can be long, so keeping track of everything the agents were doing and thinking was a challenge.
  • Integrating tools: Making sure Google Search worked perfectly within the agents took some effort.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building a working multi-agent system: It was awesome to see all the different agents come together and complete a complex task automatically.
  • Generating real content: We're really proud that agentd creates actual PDF reports and social media content, including AI-generated images.
  • Using Google ADK effectively: Learning and applying the Google ADK to build such an organized and powerful system was a big win for us. The web UI feature of ADK was very helpful.

What we learned

  • The power of multi-agent systems: We learned how breaking a big problem into smaller tasks for specialized agents can make AI solutions much more powerful.
  • Importance of orchestration: How important it is to guide AI agents through a clear workflow.
  • Google ADK is super helpful: It made building complex agent systems much easier than we expected.

What's next for agentd

  • More advanced research: Add more ways for agentd to do deeper market and technical research.
  • Better customization: Let users have more control over what kind of reports and content they want.
  • Integrate more tools: Connect with other services for things like financial projections or detailed business plans.
  • Make it even smarter: Improve its ability to understand nuanced ideas and generate even more creative content.
