Inspiration
This game is inspired by the "spy" theme, combined with escape room puzzles which I enjoy. The main puzzle is inspired by a puzzle game called Blue Prince.
What it does
This is a game where you can control Agent Floppa to investigate clues and collect items. Agent Floppa can activate "night vision" to uncover hidden invisible clues, but cannot move while using it. You must solve the puzzles in the game and correctly find the double agent to win.
How we built it
I built this game in Unity using C#. All art assets were hand-drawn by me using PixSquare, a pixel art app on iPad.
Challenges we ran into
Because I am working on this solo, I had to constantly consider the scope of the project. What puzzle mechanics are within my ability to implement? How much time would it take to hand-draw new assets for this feature? I had to consider these questions very carefully as I did not have teammates who could complete work simultaneously.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am very proud of producing quality pixel art while also producing a fully functional (but simple) puzzle game with a full gameplay loop, a win condition, and a loss condition. I am also proud of taking the time to make the game UI more dynamic and responsive to the player's actions, such as with Agent Floppa's animations and buttons responsive to mouse hovering.
What we learned
I learned how to create a multi-responsibility workflow for myself, producing all game design, art, and programming which depend on each other. I initially felt lost on what to work on, but then decided to first implement core gameplay mechanics before polishing up the experience. This taught me to prioritize tasks with limited time and manpower.
What's next for Agent Floppa
I would like to add more puzzles and greater complexity to the current level overall. I would also like to build more levels to expand on the worldbuilding of the game.
