Inspiration
When people hear about consulting, they generally think of companies such as McKinsey and Bain, which are services almost exclusive to large companies. We thought that an affordable, yet still useful consulting service is in need.
What it does
We modeled the general performance of our target food-service store in the context of a town using various strategies, implementing realistic habits such as people's general eating habits.
How we built it
We used agent-based modeling in MATLAB.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to maximize how realistic our project is with the constraint of the time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A successfully, result-driven, running model that is as complex as we could make it within the deadline.
What we learned
Two of us learned MATLAB, and we learned about agent based modeling. We also learned how to build a simulation model based off of existing statistics. We understand more about how technology can be implemented into business consulting.
What's next for Agent-based Modeling for Small Business Consulting
Our model lacks certain aspects of complexity due to our assumptions. Areas of further research and implementation include accurate traffic infrastructure, quality of restaurants, customer loyalty, etc. We also thought of an idea to transform existing open source map databases into models such as ours, to make this consulting service a lot more efficient.
