AGAIN is a next-generation habit-building platform designed to help you transform your intentions into unbreakable routines. By combining the power of self-commitment with the transparency of blockchain technology, AGAIN empowers users to achieve real, lasting change.

Inspiration

We were inspired by the universal struggle to build and maintain habits - a challenge we know firsthand. As users of habit trackers ourselves, we recognize the profound importance of being able to trust your own word. If you can’t rely on yourself to keep promises you make to yourself, what can you truly rely on?

Our journey was also shaped by a passion for blockchain technology, especially the potential of account abstraction to make blockchain more accessible and relevant to everyday life. We wanted to create real-world use cases that demonstrate how blockchain can add value beyond finance.

Finally, we believe that the best form of self-improvement comes from putting yourself in challenging situations. Committing to a habit, sticking with it, and seeing it through not only builds self-confidence but also expands your comfort zone. AGAIN is designed to help you do just that - prove to yourself that you can succeed, AGAIN and AGAIN.

Research supports the idea that public commitment is a powerful motivator. Studies have shown that when people publicly commit to a goal, they are significantly more likely to achieve it. For example, a well-known experiment by Dr. Thomas Webb and Dr. Paschal Sheeran found that individuals who shared their goals with others and made a public commitment were much more likely to follow through compared to those who kept their intentions private (Webb & Sheeran, 2006).

What it does

AGAIN allows users to create digital "habit smart contracts" with themselves. When you commit to a habit, your pledge is recorded on the blockchain, ensuring it’s public and immutable. This means anyone can see your commitment - adding an extra layer of motivation and accountability.

You then track your daily progress within a set timeframe. Miss a day? The contract is breached, but your commitment remains visible, motivating you to try AGAIN. By making your commitment public through blockchain, AGAIN leverages the proven power of social accountability to help you build real habits.

How we built it

We are Monika and Stan. We are a couple working in tech. We’ve always wanted to build something together and the Bolt hackathon gave us the perfect opportunity as both of us were already heavily experimenting with AI tools.

AGAIN was built through close collaboration. Each of us brought our unique skills and focus to the project.

Monika led the initial scaffolding and architecture, establishing the core structure of the application. They also connected Supabase for backend services and crafted the foundational user flows in Bolt, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience for creating, tracking, and committing to habits.

Stan focused on authentication, leveraging Dynamic to make signing up and wallet abstraction both secure and user-friendly. He also created a simple smart contract on Base, enabling digital contracts and immutable commitment records that set AGAIN apart.

By splitting the work this way, we combined our strengths to deliver a robust, innovative platform - methodically moving from concept to technology selection, and finally to a fully functional habit-building tool.

Challenges we ran into

Nearly every step of building AGAIN presented its own unique challenge. We ran multiple Bolt iterations just to nail the right prompting strategy and application scaffolding. Updating an existing codebase with new, customizable design elements proved tricky, especially when AI hallucinations forced us to refresh context and manage several Bolt instances throughout development. Following and guiding the AI’s output introduced a steep learning curve, particularly in mobile development.

Integrating blockchain technology was perhaps our biggest hurdle. Getting it to work smoothly with the rest of the app required us to switch authentication providers and rewrite our authentication logic, leading to plenty of trial and error. And as we neared the finish line, we discovered that marketing and presenting the application was a challenge we’d underestimated - but one we were determined to overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we’re proud of what we’ve achieved. We successfully navigated multiple Bolt iterations and design updates to create a polished, user-friendly experience. We adapted quickly to new mobile development practices and learned to work effectively with AI-assisted coding.

We overcame the complexities of blockchain integration, rewrote our authentication system, and maintained flexibility thanks to our GitHub workflow - even if it meant scrapping a few commits along the way. Most importantly, we built a unique platform that combines habit tracking with blockchain-powered commitment, and we’re excited to share it with the world.

What we learned

This journey taught us the value of persistence, adaptability, and teamwork. We learned how to guide AI tools through multiple iterations, master new development practices, and troubleshoot complex integrations. Managing context and maintaining several development instances improved our workflow discipline.

Switching authentication providers and rewriting logic deepened our understanding of security and user experience. We also realized that marketing and presentation are just as important as technical execution. Ultimately, every challenge made us better developers and collaborators, and we’re ready to take on whatever comes next.

We also experienced working together on a project. AND WE LOVED IT!

What's next for AGAIN

Our next steps are clear: we’ll keep polishing the application, making it as robust and efficient as possible. We’re focused on refining the user experience, squashing any remaining bugs, and ensuring the app is ready for a wider audience. Once everything is just right, we plan to launch AGAIN on the App Store - bringing our unique blend of habit tracking and blockchain-powered commitment to users everywhere.
