Inspiration
As university students, we often find ourselves eating alone. To make matters worse, we often have trouble deciding which restaurant to go to. With the strange but lucid fear of eating alone and wasting time on picking a restaurant, we've developed an app that helps you find friends, find love, and find food.
What it does
Our app, A food dite (after Aphrodite), is designed to help you find a mate whenever you want to grab a bite to eat. With our app, you no longer have to be in a restaurant all by yourself, with strangers throwing judgemental or pitiful looks at you. With just a click of a button, you can choose what type of cuisine you want, and whoever matches with you and your food interest will appear. What you do next is up to you ;)
How we built it
We built it using Microsoft Visual Studio Code with React Native. We were able to get live updates while developing using our phones.
Challenges we ran into
We chose to have a Google Maps API embedded within our code. If we hold any regret for this decision, we would remind ourselves that sometimes you just gotta fail to succeed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Google Maps API. The app itself. Spending a night at the wonderful U of T campus.
What we learned
We learned how to code an Android and iOS compatible app using React Native.
What's next for Afooddite
Creating a more complicated preferences list and profiles page in order to create a better sorting/matching algorithm. Create a database for user profiles. Add an in app messaging system for users to interact with each other. Being able to view nearby restaurants and find desired foods on the map.
