Inspiration

The inspiration for this website was the rivalry between Pritchard and Slusher which are well known for having a lot of fire alarms pulled and ambulances called. We wanted to create a leaderboard to see which dorm is really the most notorious for having the most of these things along with having more parties. This way new students can see all the details about the dorms they choose.

What it does

Along with giving information about dorms, it has a messaging service so people from different dorms can connect with each other. It has a challenges feature where groups of people from different dorms can compete in events against each other such as sports or minigames.

How we built it

We built this website by delegating the different sites to different members of our group, we also gave the backend work to one of our members while the rest worked on front end since most of this project was web development.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was the fact that most of us don't have much front end developing experience before and we all usually work with back end. We had to learn how to use tools like ReactJS from scratch and how to work with Flask.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact that we learned these languages enough to a level where we could create this website and we are also proud of the fact that we created a platform where people from different dorms can connect together.

What we learned

We learned a lot about web development and how to use MongoDB, Auth0, Flask, and ReactJS since we all had minimal experience in these fields before. We also learned a lot about how to connect a back end database to a front end website.

What's next for Dorm Wars

In the future we wanted to create a more fleshed out website with improved UI, we also wanted to add more features such as more in depth information about each dorm so our website could be a one stop shop to know which dorm is best for students to move into.
