What it is

Affiliateo is an affiliate marketing platform for businesses and creators. A business lists its app or product, creators promote it with their own link, and everyone gets paid when someone buys. It works for mobile apps, web apps and websites, including sales that happen inside the App Store, which is the part most affiliate tools miss.

Why I built it

It's never been easier to build an app. The hard part is getting people to use it. Affiliates are the one channel where you only pay after you make a sale, but most affiliate tools lose track of the customer once they go to the App Store. So I built one that doesn't.

  • Affiliates see every sale tracked, from the moment their link is clicked to the moment the customer buys in the app
  • Subscriptions keep paying: every time a customer renews, the affiliate gets paid again
  • Businesses pay their affiliates right inside Affiliateo, and affiliates withdraw straight to their bank in 101 countries through Stripe
  • With our API, a business can put the whole affiliate program inside its own app, so affiliates sign up, get their link and check their balance without ever visiting Affiliateo

For businesses

How it uses RevenueCat

  • A business connects RevenueCat in one click (no API key to paste) and we set up the webhook for them
  • Every purchase, renewal and refund comes in and pays or takes back the affiliate's commission
  • The Affiliate App feature: a business can give its affiliates the paid app for free, using a RevenueCat entitlement
  • Inside our iPhone app, every business's paid product becomes a real App Store purchase on its own, sold through the RevenueCat SDK

How the tracking works

  • Sure thing: on iPhone, every purchase carries a code from Apple tied to the affiliate, so a renewal a year later still pays the right person. On Android, the Play Store's install referrer does the same.
  • Best match: for the install itself, we match the click to the first time the app opens (network, device, country, time) and save the score, so every credit can be checked later.

How I built it

  • iPhone and iPad app in Swift and SwiftUI
  • Backend in TypeScript on Cloudflare, database on PlanetScale, payouts through Stripe Connect
  • Built solo, live on stream

Challenges

  • The App Store removes everything from the link, so tracking installs took the two-part system above
  • Some APIs, RevenueCat's included, quietly ignore a setting instead of giving an error. Prices showed up blank for weeks before I figured out why.
  • Refunds and chargebacks: making sure the money comes back correctly from everyone, on every payment type

  • It's live on the App Store and works end to end with real money

  • 1% fee, only on sales we actually brought in. Sales you get on your own are free
