Inspiration

Reality TV somehow always gives a real-time reflection of our day-to-day world, reflecting how relationship culture and biases influence our own relationships. We wanted to put together a game that would not only bring smiles and laughs to those who play it, but also explore relationship dynamics in dialogue and conversations.

What it does

Affectionate Village is a surrealist dating simulator where you, the new bombshell, has been voted in to shake up the villa and get a chance at winning 100 million dollars! Talk to villagers, get to know them, and make the right recoupling decision at the end.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

We really ran into some developmental/brainstorming problems while implementing this project. Initially, we wanted to create individual sprites with different looks, but the creative process we sought turned out to be too adventagous. We wanted the game to be more of a interactive one, where the player would be able to walk around the villa and talk to islanders. We also wanted to add on a final implementation of a blinking aspect where a player would have to attempt to keep their eyes open before blinking to the next interaction. If we could work on this for a longer period of time, we wouldve probable attempted to implement these mechanics into the game.

What we learned

Creating a fully implemented game with mechanics, dialogue, storylines and overarching meanings in under 12 hours between two CS students is a hard, challenging thing. Game Development is intracate, art, coding, mechanics, and more all play a part and splitting it between two individuals is a daunting thing to do, especially when we hadn't placed together any fully-set out plans before arriving at 8:30 AM. In the end, we were able to put together a dating sim that explored toxic approaches in dating, the ways to get to know others, and deal with interpersonalized losses.
